Fungal nail infection, also known as Onychomycosis is a chronic fungal infection of the toenails or fingernails. It is a relatively common disease and usually not a serious condition, but it can be unpleasant and unattractive. Fungal nails are thickened, brittle, crumbly or ragged, distorted in shape, dull, with no shine, can be painful and can have a slightly foul odor.What causes Fungal nail infection?
Fungi are normally present in and on the body. When fungus begins to overgrow a nail infection can develop. Most commonly, the fungus invades the nail and nail bed by penetrating at the sides of the nails.
